hi Anaemia is a common disorder that occurs from red blood cells deficit. There are over 400 forms of anaemia in the world with the most prevalent one being iron deficiency anaemia . (Johnson-Wimbley, T.D and Graham, D.Y. 2011)
Iron deficiency anaemia is the most popular nutritional deficiency disease. It is instigated due to a lacking measure of iron in the body and results in a decline of haemoglobin in the blood.
Iron is an essential mineral which is fundamental for numerous functions such as DNA synthesis but most importantly for the transport of oxygen.
Iron deficiency anaemia develops over time as a results of a decrease in iron storage. The causes of this can be due to blood loss during menstruation and pregnancies, insufficient diets, malabsorption’s of iron such as coeliac disease or occult gastrointestinal blood loss such as a tumour or colonic and gastric carcinoma.
